German Geographical Society (DGfG)

The German Geographical Society (DGfG) is the umbrella organisation for geographical associations and societies in Germany. It was founded in 1995 and has 25,000 members.
The DGfG represents the interests of geographers working in schools, colleges and applied professions. The Society is committed to communicating the significance of geography as a school subject, as a science and as an applied discipline. The DGfG co-ordinates the different sectors of geography represented by the specialised geographical associations, and presents their common aims to the public. Over 30 working groups within the DGfG make an important contribution to research and the further development of theory and methods within geography.
The German National Committee of the International Geographical Union (IGU) carries out the work of the association at international level in consultation with the DGfG.
