Session: Human impacts and environmental changes in karst

Abstract:
Because of her natural features, including the “external” and “internal” components, karst systems are exceptionally fragile and vulnerable ones to the damage by the human impacts. Even small changes in the state of external karst provoke the considerable violations in internal environment. That is the reason of the researches of the relationship between the human impacts and environmental changes in karst have the huge importance in understanding of the issues involved in sustainable development of karst terrains. During the session the particularly attention will be focused on the problems of the rational use of karst regions in 21st century.

Session: Management and conservation of karst landscapes

Abstract:
Karst landscapes are characterized by a wide spectrum of human activity: there are deforestation, urbanization and industry, agriculture, quarrying and mining, tourism and recreation, military activities and water exploitation. Modern management of karst terrains allow to minimize adverse impact of different types of economic activity to the karst and to conserve it’s unique for the future generations. During the session the particular attention will be concentrated to the management and conservation of protected karst areas, especially distinguishing by the outstanding universal value.
